Tromsø Villmarkssenter · Kvaløya
In the snow-free months you hike near Tromsø Villmarkssenter with husky puppies from four weeks old, then hang out with the adult sled dogs and eat lunch. There's no sledding, and that's the point: it's the husky trip for summer and autumn.

Tromsø Villmarkssenter is a racing kennel, and summer is when the new litters learn to work as a team. On this trip you join the handlers for that training: a 1 to 1.5-hour hike near the kennel on Kvaløya with puppies from four weeks to adolescence, with small exercises that depend on their age. Guests describe meeting the tiny ones in a circle first, then walking the older puppies on harnesses. They pull hard.
Then comes free time in the yard with the adult sled dogs and lunch at the kennel, usually a fish dish with a vegetarian option, plus cake and coffee. The kennel lends you rain clothes and rubber boots, and you'll need them: a guest called it "mud and rain gear", because the land is boggy and the dogs get filthy. The bus leaves the Radisson Blu at 09:30, and the trip lasts about 4.5 hours.
It's a snow-free-season trip. The tiniest puppies are around in summer, since the kennel times its litters so the dogs have grown by winter, and reviews show it running into November. If you're in Tromsø between December and March, book a sled trip instead, such as the guided ride from the same kennel, which includes a puppy visit.
Meet the check-in agent 15 minutes before departure.
Watch for reindeer on the way; one driver stopped for photos.
Rain gear on, then puppies of different ages on a walk and training exercises near the farm.
Free time in the dog yard with the working huskies.
A warm lunch with a vegetarian option, then the bus to Tromsø.
★★★★★Highly recommended. A great experience for young and old alike. Everything was superbly organized and very friendly. Plenty of time with the dogs and puppies.
★★★★★We were incredibly lucky with the weather and that we could even cuddle four-week-old puppies. The rain gear was also super good and very important. It should actually be called mud and rain gear [...]
★★★★★We also spent a lot of time with puppies and at one point my wife had five puppies sleeping on her lap - more her style. Great tour with a great guide
★★★★★If you want to see small puppies plan to go in the summer, they plan their litters so that the dogs are gone a bit by winter. Overall a fun experience

No. Sledding needs snow, roughly November to April. In summer and autumn the kennels offer puppy training and husky hikes instead. See the 2026-27 season post for dates.

It's a 1 to 1.5-hour walk on uneven, often muddy ground, and older puppies pull hard on the lead. Most people manage, but a guest warned it's challenging if you're less mobile.
