Destination Tromsø · Tamok valley (Tamokhuset)
Destination Tromsø takes you 95 minutes inland to Tamokhuset, where the snow is deeper and colder, and you drive a sled in pairs through a wide, empty valley. It's the trip for people who want wilderness more than convenience, and who don't mind three hours on a bus.

The Tamok valley sits about 90 minutes inland from Tromsø, away from the coast. That matters for two reasons: the snow comes earlier and stays later, and there's nothing out there but mountains and birch. The trip runs from Tamokhuset, a husky camp in the valley, and lasts about 7 hours door to door.
On arrival the group splits in two. One half suits up, gets the steering lesson and heads out in pairs; the other visits the dog yard and eats. Then you swap. The listing's "hot meal" is a fish soup in the lavvo, according to most reviews. The trail is flat and open, rated medium, and guests report about 7 km on the sled, which works out at 15 to 20 minutes driving each.
Be honest with yourself about the bus. You spend roughly as long on the road as at the camp, and the sled time is shorter than on the Kvaløya self-drive. What you get is the landscape and the reliability. Late in the season, when Kvaløya is slushy, Tamok often still has good snow. If you want harder trails and a longer run in the same valley, look at Camp Tamok advanced.
Meet at the Destination Tromsø desk inside the Prostneset terminal.
Through mountains and along fjords to the valley.
Gear, briefing and the sled run in pairs, swapping driver halfway.
The other group sleds while you eat, warm up in the lavvo and meet the dogs.
Drop-off back in the city centre, about 7 hours after you left.
★★★★★Absolutely the best thing we did when in Tromso. So much fun! Highly recommended!!
★★★★★The journey to destination quite long, took around 1.5 hr, so you will spent half of the time on bus. [...] Great experience with 7km sledding and giving some time to cuddle the huskies.
★★★★★It is quite expensive but worth it for such a well run activity. You really don't need to bring much, they provided warm suits, boots, gloves and hats [...] The fish soup was delicious and the experience overall was such high quality!
★★★★★The fury friends were really funny and cute, they couldn't wait for the run. [...] I would recommend to go for earliest trip, when the dogs have the most energy
